Daft Punk. The Daft. The Robots. Incarnation of the French Touch, a powerful sound that arrived in clubs around the world with the track Around the World in 1997, Daft Punk made a triumphant but no less surprising comeback in 2013 with the release of Get Lucky, a featuring with the American rapper Pharrel Williams, which became a worldwide hit. From its first week in stores, the album Random Access Memories, a tribute album to the music of the 70s, ranked number one almost everywhere in the world. A global buzz, their iconic song Get Lucky acts as a remedy for the prevailing gloom.
We're up all night to Get Lucky
First single from the album, co-written by Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, the track Get Lucky got presented at the Coachella Festival and won two Grammy Awards. The only live performance of the song with all the artists on stage took place at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in January 2014. In the disco/funk genre, a bit nu-disco with house sounds, the track produced by Columbia Records, like the whole Random Access Memories album, is a hymn to optimism, despite sorrows and failures. "Like the legend of the phoenix, all ends with beginnings, what keeps the planet spinning, the force from the beginning": the song calls to dance, to have fun, to forget, because tomorrow everything will be better and then we will be reborn, like a phoenix.
Why Random Access Memories is one of the best albums of all time?
1 million copies of the album sold in less than a week! Random Access Memories has nevertheless caused a lot of discusions among the public and Daft Punk's fans when it was released on May 17, 2013, but also in the editorial teams of the specialized media. The risk taken by the band was huge: revisiting funk with modern collaborations, putting aside the original beat of the previous albums Human After Hall (2005), Discovery (2001) and Homework (1997). But the robots are betting on coming back with bright new helmets and a backwards album. Harmonious arrangements, guitars with bottleneck and playful funk keyboards, Random Access Memories is truly "apart". At the beginning of 2014, the entire album was awarded several Grammy Awards, including Best Album of the Year, Best Recording for Get Lucky, Best Pop Band Performance, Best Dance/Electro Album and a Technical Award for Mastering.
